Saskatoon Council on Aging Job Opportunity for Housing Support Worker

This job involves:

  •  Establishing a housing advocacy and support program to prevent homelessness among
    vulnerable adults aged 55+ in Saskatoon, particularly those at risk of losing their housing or
    being discharged from the hospital into homelessness.

  •  Evidence-based research on homelessness prevention for older adults, sharing findings to
    enhance community awareness and advocacy for increased affordable and suitable housing for seniors in Saskatoon.

    Skills 

  •  Proven knowledge, skills and experience in providing support and advocacy to marginalized and vulnerable older adults. 

  •  Understanding of First Nation and Métis cultures and the needs of the Métis and First Nation Peoples within Saskatchewan will be required. 

  •   Working knowledge of the dynamics and impacts of homelessness and are competent in working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. 

  •   Skills in conducting safety assessments and safety planning. 

  •   Works cooperatively and collaboratively with other community professionals, and the broader 
community. Experienced in organization, self-care, and general work management skills as 
well as an ability to work well independently and in a team environment. 

  •  Strong preference will be given to a person of Indigenous ancestry.
